Scruffy's Big Adventures - Warwick

The low key Warwick shoot has come around once again, and as dad was still away, I had the responsability of making sure mum got to he range in time to shoot. As dad was not around, mum did not have to be at the range just on daylight as she normally did when dad was here - as he shot everything so, had to be at the range from daylight till dark.

As the start time was after lunch, mum decided to go to the bang stick shop on the Saturday morning to get all the gear we had to take with us. After mucking around there for a few hours, we took off west. We had a nice leisurely drive over to Warwick. On the way, mum finally figured out how to get the cruise control working. I tried to tell her she could not curl up on the seat and sleep as she normally did, as she still had to actually steer the car. She soon learnt I was right when the first corner came up.

Apart from that little incident, and the fact we had to follow a large petrol tanker up and over the big hill at 21km per hour, because the rain had washed some of the bank away, and the road people had not got around to cleaning the mess up proper.

I really can't work this country out. When we went out to Warwick last time, the countryside was all black and brown. This trip it was many greens - from the light green grass, to dark green grass, to the green of the gum trees. Sounds like I am turning into a poet. Most normal places are all brown in the summer and green in the winter, but not here. Its brown in the winter and green in the summer. What's with this place?

Anyway, we finally arrived to find only a few people around the club rooms. There were some very load bangs coming from one of the ranges, and when we asked Aunty Carol what was happening, said they were shooting poofy powder - OOPS, sorry, Black powder.

I had only just arrived and got a cuppa, when I started to hear the gossip. A couple of new to the road again shooters, we will give them make believe names of say, Geoff and Margaret. They have set up their ute, so they can sleep in the back of it over the weekend at the range. Well apparently after their first ever night's sleep in the ute they awoke on the Saturday morning to find that the ute had a flat tyre. We will leave the rest up to you.

Aunty Pam and Uncle John (Maher) were actually at Warwick for a change. They always say work gets in the way. Time they thought of a new excuse I reckon. Anyway, apparently you could tell that they didn't go shooting enough, as Uncle John bowled on into air pistol at the right time only to find that there was someone else set up in his bay. He got his squadding out to check, only to find he was in that bay. At the same time, ma.jpg Aunty Pam came in and gave him his squadding for the weekend. He had actually been looking at last years list.

Don't think Aunty Pam was any better as she went to shoot air pistol, only to find she had her standard pistol in her bag. I think its really time they started going to shoots again, don't you?

Well, after all the gossip gathering, we wandered down to start shooting. Mum said she was feeling pretty good, so I thought this should be an easy day, and really relaxed while she shot. We had a couple of hiccups along the way, but even with them, we were quite happy with the outcome. After that, all we had to do for the rest of the day, was to relax - and thats exactly what I went and did.

Dinner came and went, and again, Warwick did us all proud. There was a spread that us dogs could be proud of. After dinner the humans just sat around and talked. A couple of them decided to see if they could finish off a box of liquid, and they gave it a dam good try. It seemed like ages after the sun had gone down that the humans decided to hit the hay, as they say. snore.jpg I went in to check out the bedroom, only to find that I would have to share it with the three best snorers in the business, so I took off and went and slept in the car.

Sunday dawned bright and early, and after a light breakfast (mums got me on a diet), we went off to shoot air. Mum was not feeling as good as yesterday, so I decided to sit behind her today just in case. Anyway, about half way through, I was getting bored with it all,as all she could do was shoot 10's then 8's - so I decided to wander off for a walk. I only got as far as the kitchen, where Aunty Carol tempted me with foood. I started with the sandwiches, which is where mum found me. I went on from there to the cakes - YUM - and then I was just hitting the chocolate bars when mum finished shooting and came out and caught me again.stach.jpg It was about this time that she gave up on me, and told me I could do as I wanted.

After lunch I heard mum, Aunty Carol and Aunty Pam trying to find me, as I had left my chocky bars and the mess, and disappeared from the kitchen. Little did they know that Uncle 2Bob had come and dog napped me from my favourite position - eating.

A little later, I could hear mum outside talking to Uncle Daryal - but they could not hear me over the noise that the bang sticks were making. Aunty Carol came to my rescue, and found me hanging around on the range keeping an eye on that horrible two timing B........... Uncle 2Bob.2bob.jpg We walked around for ages while I relaxed, and then she found mum, and I was allowed to sit with her while she made an absolute stuff up with her duelling.

After we had finished shooting, I went back to the car and settled in, as I knew mum would not be too much longer before we left. I did not want to risk being dog napped again, as so many humans now want me to be with them and help them all the time. They have to realize that I am only a one human dog, and he will be back soon, so look out.

I am going back with mum to the land of the Long White Cloud soon, and then I am going on holiday for a couple of weeks and won't be back till Easter, so I will be sending a deputy out with mum to the Tarewa shoot next month.
